The tournament is a tribute to Bryce Rockafellow who was an avid golfer, a member of the Elmwood Men's Golf Club, and an employee at the Elmwood Golf Course. Bryce died of natural causes in July of 1990 at the age of 20. The tournament was started in 1991 to help raise money for the Bryce Rockafellow Foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to fund and award annual college or vocational scholarships. The Bryce Scholarship is open to the children of Men's and Ladies' Club members and to junior golfers at Elmwood, Kuehn Park and Prairie Green. In the past 20 years 31 students have received scholarships from the Bryce Rockafellow Foundation.
